How to compare withdrawal costs

Two freelancers can earn the exact same $2,000 in a month and take home very different amounts in pesos. The difference comes down to four things.

Withdrawal fees: Flat charges add up when you make frequent small withdrawals. Percentage fees grow with the payment amount.

Exchange rate markup: A conversion charge may be built into the rate. Check the final PHP amount against a market reference taken at the same time.

Example: At an illustrative market rate of ₱62 per dollar, a rate 2% lower is ₱60.76. On $1,000, that difference costs ₱1,240.

Speed: Allow for earnings clearance, withdrawal processing and delivery to your bank or wallet. A cheaper route may be less useful if the money arrives after your bills are due.

Minimums and limits: Choose a route that fits your available balance. For example, Fiverr's bank-transfer minimum is $20 and its maximum payout is $5,000.

Choose a method that balances the final PHP amount with the delivery time and limits you need.

How to find your real cost: Compare the final peso amounts for the same USD balance at the same time.

  1. Write down the USD amount you are withdrawing.

  2. Note a USD-to-PHP market reference rate, for example from a currency converter.

  3. Multiply the USD amount by that reference rate to get a comparison benchmark.

  4. Compare that benchmark with each provider's final PHP amount after fees.

Example: At a reference rate of ₱62 per dollar, $1,000 equals ₱62,000. If a provider offers ₱60,500 after fees, the difference is ₱1,500, or about 2.42%. Use the same time and starting balance for both figures.

Match the method to your income pattern

  • Small, frequent payments favor methods with low flat fees and low minimums.

  • Large, regular payments make the exchange-rate difference more important, even when the listed transfer fee is small.

  • Mixed income from several platforms favors a single account where you can collect everything first, then convert once.

Guides for each platform

Upwork withdrawals in the Philippines: compare the $0.99 local-bank route with $2.99 US ACH withdrawals and the monthly Elevate Pay reward.

Fiverr withdrawals in the Philippines: compare payout fees, clearing periods and the Payoneer setup needed for a bank transfer.

Freelancer.com withdrawals in the Philippines: choose among Express Withdrawal, wallet and wire options and account for the minimum balance.

PeoplePerHour withdrawals in the Philippines: allow for earnings clearance before withdrawal processing and match the payout currency to your balance.

Receive Toptal payments with Elevate Pay: add your US account details in the Pay Portal and receive dollars before converting to pesos.

Deel contractor withdrawals in the Philippines: compare bank and wallet withdrawals. Employee payroll arrangements can work differently.

Gusto international contractor payments: compare the $5 US-bank fee with local-currency charges, then give your client the bank details for your chosen currency.

Remote.com contractor payments in the Philippines: choose your invoice currency and deposit method, then track delivery after client funding.

Payoneer to GCash: cash in directly from a linked Payoneer account and compare the final PHP quote with bank withdrawal options.

PayPal to a Philippine bank: link your bank and review the fees. To keep USD, withdraw to your same-name Elevate Pay account. PayPal's 3% US-bank withdrawal fee applies. For wallet cash-in, use the separate PayPal to GCash guide.

Receiving USD with Elevate Pay

Receiving earnings in USD gives you control over when to convert to pesos. Elevate Pay provides US account and ACH routing details for payments from platforms and clients.

Once your account is approved, add those details as a USD bank payout method on a platform that supports ACH. The platform guides above explain the setup for each service.

How it works

  1. Apply in the app. Account registration and monthly maintenance are free. Follow the Philippines account-opening guide for the current ID, address and income documents and identity checks.

  2. Add your account number, ACH routing number and account holder name to your platform's USD bank-payment settings. Use the details shown in your Elevate Pay app.

  3. Receiving ACH is free. ACH is a US bank-transfer network, different from a wire. When a platform offers both, choose ACH.

  4. Keep your earnings in USD or send pesos to GCash or a Philippine bank through the destinations listed in the app.

Sending pesos costs a flat $1.50 fee. The transfer screen shows the final PHP amount and delivery time.

Example: With a $1,000 total budget and a sample rate of ₱62.17 per dollar, deduct the $1.50 fee first: ($1,000 − $1.50) × ₱62.17 = ₱62,076.75.

A flat fee takes a smaller share of larger payments. Include the exchange rate and the platform's withdrawal charge when comparing how many pesos you receive.

Extra benefits

  • Upwork users can earn back the new $2.99 fee. Through the Upwork Reward Campaign, eligible users who receive at least $500 from Upwork into Elevate Pay in a calendar month get a $2.99 reward, once per month.

  • Use Elevate Tag to send money to another Elevate Pay user without a transfer fee.

For help setting up your account or tracing a transfer, contact Elevate Pay support in the app.

Elevate Pay is a fintech company, not a bank. Banking services are provided by Merchants Commercial Bank, Member FDIC.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to pay tax on my freelance income in the Philippines?

Freelance income can create registration, reporting and tax obligations in the Philippines. Keep your invoices and payment records, and ask a Philippine tax professional which requirements apply to you. Your payout method does not remove those obligations.

Should I convert to pesos right away or keep my earnings in USD?

Convert the amount you need for peso expenses. Keeping some USD may suit future dollar expenses, but exchange rates can move either way, and holding USD does not guarantee a better PHP rate.

Can I send money to GCash from my freelance earnings?

Yes. Some platforms first pay a bank, PayPal or Payoneer. GCash also supports direct cash-in from linked PayPal and Payoneer accounts. See the PayPal to GCash guide and Payoneer to GCash guide for the different fees and steps.
