Freelancer.com lists $1 withdrawals for PayPal, Skrill and Payoneer, and $25 for wire transfers. Its Express Withdrawal service does not list Sri Lanka as a destination, so plan around the wallet and wire routes instead.

If you use more than one platform, our complete guide on how Sri Lankan freelancers get paid compares every major option in one place.

Express Withdrawal is not available for Sri Lanka

Freelancer.com's Express Withdrawal guide publishes the countries and currencies it can send to. The list includes Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. Sri Lanka and the rupee do not appear on it.

This matters because Express Withdrawal is the cheapest direct-to-bank option the platform offers, at a $1 fee and two to three business days. Without it, a Sri Lankan freelancer chooses between a wallet and a wire.

Availability can change. Open Withdraw funds and check the destinations offered to your own account before assuming either way.

How Freelancer.com milestone payments work

Freelancer.com uses milestone payments to protect both you and your client.

Step 1: The client creates a milestone

Before or during a project, the client creates a milestone payment for an agreed amount. The money is set aside, which shows the client is serious and the funds exist.

Step 2: You complete the work

You deliver the work tied to that milestone and ask the client to review it through the project chat. Larger projects are often split into several milestones, so you get paid as you go instead of waiting until the very end.

Step 3: The client releases the milestone

When the client releases a milestone, the funds move to your balance. Project fees are separate: Freelancer.com's fee schedule lists 10% or $5, whichever is greater, on fixed-price projects, and 10% on hourly payments.

Step 4: You request a withdrawal

With the money in your balance, you can request a withdrawal using any method available in your location. Depending on the method, you may need to complete identity verification, known as KYC, first.

A funded milestone is not the same as an available balance. Withdrawal also depends on release and any account checks.

Withdrawal methods available

Open Withdraw funds to see the methods available to your account. Freelancer.com states that availability depends on your country.

  • PayPal: The fee schedule lists $1 per withdrawal, with a standard $50 minimum after fees. PayPal verification is required. A Sri Lankan personal PayPal account can now receive cross-border payments and withdraw through a partner bank.

  • Payoneer: $1 per withdrawal. Freelancer.com notes that its Payoneer route only supports USD, so the money arrives in dollars and any conversion happens later.

  • Skrill: $1 per withdrawal, but Freelancer.com notes that Skrill only supports EUR and GBP. That makes it a poor fit for dollar earnings.

  • Wire transfer: A $25 fee and a $500 minimum, which is well above the standard $50 minimum for other methods. Allow for possible intermediary and receiving-bank charges.

Allow for the fee: For a method with a $50 minimum after fees and a $1 charge, you need at least $51 available. Wire transfers have a separate $500 minimum. Check the total debit before submitting.

Your first withdrawal is delayed: Freelancer.com states that all first-time withdrawals are held for 15 days for security. Later withdrawals follow its published processing cutoffs.

Step-by-step withdrawal walkthrough

Part 1: Prepare your account

  1. Complete the verification requested for your account and withdrawal method.

  2. Make sure released milestone funds are available and cover both the withdrawal minimum and fee.

Part 2: Choose an available withdrawal method

  1. Click your profile picture in the main menu and select Withdraw funds.

  2. Select the wallet or wire method offered to your account.

  3. For Payoneer, sign in to link your Payoneer account. For a wire, enter your bank's details, including account number and SWIFT code, exactly as your bank provides them.

  4. Enter the amount and submit your request.

  5. Track the status in your transaction history.

Part 3: Receive USD in Elevate Pay

Because Express Withdrawal is unavailable, the practical USD route runs through Payoneer or a wire. Confirm which your account offers before you begin.

  1. Apply for Elevate Pay and complete the checks in the Sri Lanka account-opening guide.

  2. Copy your US account details. In the app, find your account number, ACH routing number and account holder name.

  3. In Withdraw funds, check whether a US USD bank destination is offered for your account. Before entering Elevate Pay details, confirm with Freelancer.com that the payment will use ACH. Keep your actual Sri Lankan address on your profile.

  4. Complete the verification requested for the bank method and wait for approval.

  5. Select the approved method, enter the amount and submit the withdrawal. Receiving ACH is free, and the USD stays in your account until you choose to convert.

  6. When you need rupees, select a Sri Lankan payout destination in Elevate Pay. LKR transfers cost a flat $1.50 fee. The maximum is $5,000 per transfer, so a larger amount goes as more than one transfer.

Choose the ACH route, not a wire, when both are offered. Contact our support team in the app if the transfer type is unclear.

Elevate Pay is a fintech company, not a bank. Banking services are provided by Merchants Commercial Bank, Member FDIC.

Common Freelancer.com withdrawal problems

  • Your balance is below the minimum: Check the minimum and fee on the selected method. The public standard minimum is $50 after fees, and wires need $500.

  • Your withdrawal method is not showing: Freelancer.com's options depend on your location and verification status. If a method you expected is missing, complete all verification steps first, then check the Withdraw funds page again.

  • You were expecting Express Withdrawal: It is not listed for Sri Lanka. Compare the PayPal and Payoneer routes instead, and treat a wire as a last resort because of its $25 fee and $500 minimum.

  • Your wire arrived with less money: Intermediary banks can deduct fees from wires before they reach you, and your bank may add its own incoming fee. This is normal for international wires, and it is one reason ACH is usually cheaper when available.

  • Your name or details do not match: Your withdrawal account name should match your verified Freelancer.com name. Typos in account numbers, routing numbers or SWIFT codes can cause rejected or delayed transfers.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Freelancer.com withdrawal pending?

A first withdrawal is held for 15 days before processing. Also check verification, security reviews and the expected processing date. If that date passes, contact Freelancer.com support with the withdrawal reference.

Can I get Freelancer.com earnings into eZ Cash?

Freelancer.com's published Express Withdrawal destination list does not include Sri Lanka. If your account offers Payoneer, withdraw to that balance and then use its eZ Cash integration. Check both stages before confirming. See the Payoneer to eZ Cash guide.

Is Skrill worth using from Sri Lanka?

Freelancer.com notes that its Skrill route only supports EUR and GBP. If you earn in dollars, that adds a conversion you would not otherwise pay. Compare the final rupee amount before choosing it.

Prepare your next withdrawal

Open Withdraw funds and choose among the wallet and wire routes shown to your Sri Lanka account. The published Express Withdrawal destination list does not include Sri Lanka. For more marketplace guides, see how to withdraw money from Upwork and how to withdraw PeoplePerHour earnings.

How we checked this

We reviewed Freelancer.com's fees page, withdrawal-methods page and Express Withdrawals guide on September 21–22, 2026. The Express Withdrawal destination list published on that date does not include Sri Lanka or the rupee. Freelancer.com does not publish wire transfer timing. No test withdrawal was made. Check the Withdraw funds page for the methods offered to your own account.
