PeoplePerHour holds your balance in GBP, EUR or USD only, so a rupee balance is not an option. Check the clearing date in your Payments section before planning a withdrawal, then allow up to two working days for processing plus delivery time.

Check your balance and clearing date

PeoplePerHour handles client payments and deducts its service fee before you withdraw. Keep that fee separate from withdrawal and conversion charges when comparing routes.

PeoplePerHour's withdrawal guidance states that funds become available only after a clearing period that can take approximately 14 working days. Working days are not calendar days, so allow closer to three calendar weeks.

Its payment guidance adds that an invoice sits pending while it is processed, which usually takes hours but can take up to three working days, and that PeoplePerHour approval typically follows within two working days.

Your account holds three currencies: Your account can hold GBP, EUR and USD balances. There is no rupee balance, so a conversion always happens somewhere between PeoplePerHour and your bank.

Withdrawal options for Sri Lankan freelancers

PeoplePerHour lets you withdraw to PayPal, Payoneer or a bank account. You can also leave money in your account to buy proposal credits or services.

  • PayPal: After a PayPal payout, review PayPal's conversion quote and the terms of your Sri Lankan partner bank. Withdrawals from a Sri Lankan PayPal account are started from the bank's own app rather than inside PayPal.

  • Payoneer: A Payoneer account works in a specific currency. PeoplePerHour notes that you need to withdraw to the matching currency. If your Payoneer account is in USD and your earnings are in GBP, you must convert those funds first, which adds a conversion cost.

  • Bank account: PeoplePerHour lists one to three working days for SEPA and local transfers, and three to seven working days for international transfers, noting that intermediary bank fees may apply. It also warns that some countries can take from a week to a month.

  • US ACH and Elevate Pay: PeoplePerHour's withdrawal-method instructions label ACH Bank “USA only.” They do not explain whether a Sri Lanka-registered freelancer can use a US receiving account. Ask PeoplePerHour support to confirm eligibility before relying on this route.

Payout currencies and delivery times

PeoplePerHour does not publish a withdrawal fee for any method. The amount is shown when you request the withdrawal, so check it there. The times below start after earnings have cleared and PeoplePerHour has processed the request.

  • Fees are not published: PeoplePerHour lists no per-method withdrawal fee and no minimum withdrawal on its public pages. Treat the figure shown at withdrawal as the only reliable number.

  • Avoid double conversion: With GBP earnings, converting to USD and later to rupees creates two currency exchanges. Compare that total with a route that converts GBP directly to LKR.

Step by step

Step 1: Check which currency your funds are in

Open Payments, check your GBP, EUR and USD balances, and confirm that the funds have cleared.

Step 2: Set up your destination

  • For PayPal or Payoneer: Link your account, and check your Payoneer currency matches the balance you plan to withdraw.

  • For Elevate Pay, first confirm with PeoplePerHour that your Sri Lanka-registered profile can use US ACH. Then complete the Elevate Pay account-opening process and copy your USD details.

Step 3: Add your withdrawal details

Follow PeoplePerHour's setup instructions: select your profile photo, Settings, then Payments. Add your own bank or wallet account. Use Elevate Pay only after PeoplePerHour confirms US ACH eligibility for your profile. If ACH is unavailable, choose another supported payout method.

Step 4: Request the withdrawal

Use the Withdraw Funds link in your Payments section. Select your method, enter the amount, and confirm. Check the fee displayed on this screen, because it is not published anywhere else.

Step 5: Wait for processing

Once funds have cleared, PeoplePerHour says it can take up to two working days to process a request. Its withdrawal guidance then lists separate delivery times for each route.

Step 6: Receive and move your money

Track the transfer in Transactions. For an approved ACH payout to Elevate Pay, you can keep the received USD or send rupees to a Sri Lankan bank. Service export proceeds must reach Sri Lanka within 180 days of providing the service; see how Sri Lankan freelancers get paid. LKR transfers cost a flat $1.50 fee. The maximum is $5,000 per transfer, so a larger amount goes as more than one transfer.

Elevate Pay is a fintech company, not a bank. Banking services are provided by Merchants Commercial Bank, Member FDIC.

Common PeoplePerHour withdrawal problems

  • Your withdrawal is taking longer than expected: First check whether the funds are still clearing, which can take about 14 working days. If the withdrawal itself remains unprocessed beyond the stated window, contact PeoplePerHour with the request reference.

  • Your Payoneer withdrawal was rejected: Check for a currency mismatch and any verification issue. PeoplePerHour says withdrawals must match the currency of the linked Payoneer account.

  • Your bank charged an incoming fee: International transfers can carry intermediary charges. Ask the bank to identify the charge, then check the total cost of another supported payout method before your next withdrawal.

  • You lost money on a conversion you did not plan: Converting a GBP or EUR balance to USD, then converting again to rupees, means paying two margins. Before converting inside PeoplePerHour, check whether your destination can accept the original currency.

  • Your name does not match: Use your verified name on the receiving account. For a missing ACH payment to Elevate Pay, contact support in the app with the transfer confirmation.

Frequently asked questions

Can I hold my PeoplePerHour balance in rupees?

No. PeoplePerHour holds GBP, EUR and USD only. A conversion to rupees happens at your bank, your wallet provider or a USD account you control, so check where that conversion leaves you best off.

How can I avoid losing money on currency conversion?

Choose a payout currency that matches your receiving account where possible, then compare the final rupee amounts. For example, USD to USD avoids a conversion on receipt, and you can convert to rupees later when you need them.

How we checked this

We reviewed PeoplePerHour's withdrawal, payment and withdrawal-method pages on 21–22 September 2026. PeoplePerHour publishes no withdrawal fee and no minimum for any method, and it does not say whether a Sri Lanka-registered profile can use the ACH Bank option it marks USA only. Both gaps are stated above rather than filled. No test withdrawal was made. The figure shown when you request a withdrawal is the one that applies.
