Deel contractors can choose among the withdrawal methods offered in their dashboard. Deel lists the Sri Lankan rupee as a supported withdrawal currency, but it does not publish which methods work for each country, so check your own dashboard before planning around a fee.

Check whether you are paid as a contractor

This guide covers contractor balances. If you are employed through Deel's Employer of Record service, use your employment payment instructions and ask your HR contact which options apply.

Withdrawal methods Deel supports

For contractors, Deel supports a wide range of withdrawal methods. Availability depends on your country and currency, so check your dashboard for the exact list.

  • Local bank transfer: Deel charges no fee for local bank transfers and lists a $10 minimum. Whether this covers a Sri Lankan bank is not published, which is the key thing to confirm in your dashboard.

  • Cross-border bank transfer: A transfer to a bank in a different country than your profile country, such as a US account. Deel lists a $5 fee.

  • International transfer (SWIFT): Deel lists a fee of $5 capped at a maximum of $10, with a $100 minimum. Intermediary banks may take unpredictable extra fees.

  • PayPal and Payoneer: Deel charges 2.5% for PayPal, with a $0.25 minimum fee, and 1% for Payoneer, with a $12 minimum fee.

  • Wise and Revolut: Deel lists no withdrawal fee for either. Note that Sri Lanka is not among the countries where Wise lets you hold a balance, so this route is generally not open to you even though the fee looks attractive. Wise can still send rupees to a Sri Lankan bank, so a client abroad may use it to pay you.

  • Deel Card and Instant Card Transfer: Moving funds to the Deel Card has no Deel withdrawal fee. Outside the US, Instant Card Transfer costs 2%, capped at $15.

Source: Deel withdrawal fees and minimums. The $12 Payoneer figure is a minimum fee, not the minimum withdrawal: on a $500 payout, that fee is $12 rather than $5.

  • Currency is listed, method support is not: Deel's supported-currency page lists the Sri Lanka Rupee, and states that not all methods are supported for every currency. Deel publishes no country-to-method table, so do not assume the $0 local bank transfer is available to you until your dashboard shows it.

  • Match the contract and withdrawal currencies: Deel notes that withdrawing in a currency other than your contract currency triggers exchange fees and rates. If your contract is in USD, withdrawing USD to a USD account avoids an automatic conversion at that stage.

Step by step: Deel to bank vs Deel to Elevate Pay

Option 1: Withdraw to a Sri Lankan bank

  1. Log in to Deel and open your balance or Withdraw page.

  2. Click to add a new withdrawal method and choose Bank transfer.

  3. Select Sri Lanka and LKR, then enter your bank details exactly as your bank shows them. The account name should match your name on Deel.

  4. Check which method Deel applies. If it routes as SWIFT rather than a local transfer, the fee and timing change.

  5. Choose the amount, review the exchange rate and fee Deel shows, and confirm.

Option 2: Withdraw to Elevate Pay in USD

  1. Complete verification through the Elevate Pay Sri Lanka account-opening process.

  2. Copy your account details. In the Elevate Pay app, copy your account number, ACH routing number and account holder name.

  3. Follow the Deel bank-transfer setup: open Payments, Withdrawal Methods and Add Withdrawal Method. Choose Bank Transfer and enter the US USD account details shown in Elevate Pay.

  4. A Sri Lanka-based contractor sending USD to a US bank makes a cross-border withdrawal, which Deel lists at $5. Save the bank method and complete any verification requested.

  5. Choose Withdraw, select Elevate Pay and enter the amount. Use the ACH route and review the fee and arrival date before submitting.

  6. After the USD arrives, keep it in dollars or send rupees from Elevate Pay. LKR transfers cost a flat $1.50 fee. The maximum is $5,000 per transfer, so a larger amount goes as more than one transfer. Contact support in the app for help with a transfer.

Elevate Pay is a fintech company, not a bank. Banking services are provided by Merchants Commercial Bank, Member FDIC.

Which option is better?

Use a USD route only if your dashboard offers it. Set Deel's direct LKR quote against the rupee amount available after a USD withdrawal and a later conversion. Include the Deel withdrawal fee, the receiving service's charges and the exchange-rate difference. Remember that service export proceeds must still reach Sri Lanka within 180 days.

Common Deel withdrawal problems

  • The $0 local-bank route is missing: Deel lists LKR as a currency but does not publish every country-to-method pairing. Use the methods in your own dashboard and compare their displayed fees.

  • A withdrawal costs more than expected: Check whether your contract and withdrawal currencies differ and whether Deel is using a local, cross-border or SWIFT route. Review the exchange rate and fee before confirming.

  • A US bank method is not available: Ask Deel whether your profile supports an ACH transfer to the US account details shown in Elevate Pay. Do not enter those details for a SWIFT-only route.

Frequently asked questions

Can I withdraw my Deel balance to a Sri Lankan mobile wallet?

Deel's published withdrawal list does not include Sri Lankan wallets. If your dashboard offers Payoneer, withdraw there before using its eZ Cash integration. Deel lists a 1% Payoneer fee with a $12 minimum, so include that first hop in the comparison. See the Payoneer to eZ Cash guide.

Does Deel deduct Sri Lankan taxes from contractor payments?

As a contractor, check your own Sri Lankan registration and filing obligations. Do not assume the payment platform files them for you. Employee payroll arrangements differ. Ask a Sri Lankan tax professional about your circumstances.

What documents might Deel ask me for?

Deel may request identity verification and tax forms. Form W-8BEN documents a non-US individual's foreign status for US withholding and reporting. It does not replace Sri Lankan tax filing.

Choose your withdrawal method

Use a method Deel actually offers your profile, then compare its displayed LKR quote with a supported USD route before confirming. For other payroll platforms, see our guides on withdrawing Gusto payments and withdrawing Remote.com payments. For the whole set of options, see how Sri Lankan freelancers get paid.

How we checked this

We checked Deel's withdrawal fee and supported-currency pages on 21–22 September 2026. Deel lists the Sri Lankan rupee as a withdrawal currency but publishes no country-to-method table, so whether the $0 local bank transfer reaches Sri Lanka is not confirmed and is flagged above. The Wise position comes from Wise's own guidance on where you can hold a balance. No test withdrawal was made. Your dashboard shows the methods and fees available to your account.
